A transcript of Burton Crane's oral history interview with Beate Gordon. Crane discusses his work as a financial editor of the Japanese Advertiser in Tokyo, and as a correspondent for the New York Times, Japanese society in the 1920's and 1930's, journalism and consorship during the allied occupation of Japan, Douglas MacArthur's role in the occupation, key organizations in the occupation and the Japanese constitution, and prominent military and political figures. Forms part of Columbia Oral History Collection (Part Two).

General of the Army Douglas MacArthur (26 January 1880 – 5 April 1964) was an American five-star general and Field Marshal of the Philippine Army. He was Chief of Staff of the United States Army during the 1930s and played a prominent role in the Pacific theater during World War II.
